Leaving the Unleavable- Separation Related Problems in Dogs

Separation related problems in dogs can be challenging for owners as well as the veterinary technician trying to help them. In this presentation attendees will learn how to differentiate between separation anxiety and separation distress, the common behavioral modification and training skills needed to reverse the problem, and common training exercises that can be used prevent the issue in young dogs. This presentation will also discuss the use of medications in treating separation related problems and how they can be used to effect behavioral change.

Jennie Fiendish, CVT, VTS (Behavior), CPDT-KA, CTDI

In 1992 Jenn turned her love of animals into a career.  Since then she has enjoyed many roles in the animal field including veterinary medicine, educator, and performer.  Jenn has always had a special interest in behavior and is passionate about using her knowledge to educate the public on how to peacefully and thoughtfully communicate better with and understand animals.

Jenn is the current Executive Director of the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians, a coordinator for the Clinical Animal Behavior Conference, and is Fear Free Elite Certified.  She is also a member of the Fear Free Speaker’s Bureau and gives presentations on animal behavior and training on a local and national level.   In addition to being a Certified Veterinary Technician, Jenn was awarded her designation of Veterinary Technician Specialist in Behavior.  She is also a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed and a Certified Trick Dog Instructor.

In her free time Jenn enjoys equestrian sports, target shooting, and is an avid crocheter.  Her ‘squad’ includes two hairless dogs, two curly feathered geese, an elderly ball python, and one very patient husband.
