This presentation will discuss and provide examples of several aspects of learning theory as well as how to use them when learning, teaching, and modifying behaviors.

Learning objectives
1.  Attendees will learn the definitions for and the functions of operant and classical conditioning and habituation.
2.  Attendees will learn the definitions for and the functions of operant and classical counterconditioning and desensitization.
3.  Attendees will learn how operant and classical conditioning are two sides to an animal’s learning experience happening at the same time.
4.  Attendees will learn about the requirements for learning, teaching, and modifying behaviors.

Ginny Price is a professor at St Petersburg College, College of Veterinary Technology where she teaches a variety of courses including Small Animal Breeds and Behavior in the AS program and Advanced Veterinary Behavior in the BAS program. She began teaching at SPC in 1995.

Between 2009 and 2011, she was the Critical Thinking Champion for the AS Veterinary Technology program. Ginny served as the Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (CETL) Associate for the SPC School of Veterinary Technology from 2011 until 2016. From 2009 through 2011, she was privileged to serve on the board of directors for the Western Veterinary Conference as their Technician Director.

She graduated from St Petersburg Junior College Veterinary Technology Program in 1981 and began working in small animal day hospitals as a credentialed technician, which continued until 2005. She is certified in the state of Florida with the Florida Veterinary Technician Association.

Ginny has a Master’s of Science degree in psychology earned in 2007 from Walden University. She is a founding member of the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (SVBT) and a charter member of the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (AVBT). She earned her Veterinary Technician Specialist in Behavior in 2010 by serving on the organizing committee. She earned her Fear Free Veterinary Professional Certificate and Fear Free Level Two Certificate.

She now serves at the pleasure of the AVBT board as parliamentarian and works on the speaker committee for the Clinical Animal Behavior Conference as well as helping with the conference at the Oquendo Center in Nevada. She served on the Committee on Veterinary Technician Specialist from 2019 – 2020 representing the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians.
