Executive Board of Director Positions

It is the role of the executive Board of Directors to direct and assess, in the best interest of its members, the overall goals and direction of the society.

President — automatic succession to past-president

Duties include:

  • Presiding at all meetings of the Board of Directors and the annual general membership meeting.
  • Creating the agenda for the meetings.
  • Representing SVBT in all matters.
  • Overseeing that the Board of Directors and the Committee Chairpersons.
  • Appointing the Chairpersons of all standing and ad hoc committees and outlining the purpose and duties of each committee and monitor their progress.
  • Promoting the interest and active participation in SVBT on the part of the membership and report activities of SVBT to the members by means of SVBT publications and speeches.
  • Presenting an address at the annual general membership meeting, at the end of the term in office and at other appropriate meetings.
  • In cooperation with the persons having the responsibility for SVBT’s financial affairs, help develop, recommend, and oversee that SVBT operates within the proposed annual budget and have an annual accountant review.
  • Acting as the spokesperson for SVBT to the press, the public, and related organizations.

President-Elect — elected every year

The president-elect position is a1-year term with automatic succession to president and past-president positions. This is a leadership position supported and mentored by current board members. The president-elect will work closely with the president and past president to meet continued goals and missions.

Duties include:

  • Standing in for the president in society matters if the president is unavailable.
  • Chairs finance committee.
  • Organize the annual business meeting.
  • Cooperate in promotional activities of the society.
  • Upon incapacitation of the Treasurer, the President-Elect shall sign checks for SVBT.
  • Co-chair the Membership Committee.

Past-President — one-year term

The past president serves as an advisor to the board and as a mentor and support to the president and president-elect.

Treasurer — two-year term, elected in even years

Duties of the treasurer include:

  • Keeping an itemized account of all receipts and disbursements for a period of not less than five (5) years.
  • Giving a written report at the annual meeting of the SVBT.
  • Submit all books of account for annual accountant review by February 1st.
  • Submit monthly documents to the accountant to obtain profit and loss and balance statements before each BOD meeting.
  • Supervise any financial matter of the Society.
  • Serve as a member of the Finance Committee and in the event of the temporary absence of the President-Elect, the Treasurer shall chair the Finance Committee.
  • At the close of the Annual General Membership Meeting, deliver to the newly elected treasurer all money, vouchers, books and papers of the Society held in his/her custody.

Recording Secretary — two-year term, elected in odd years

The recording secretary is the official record keeper for the society.

Duties include:

  • Records minutes for all meetings of the Board of Directors and annual general meetings.
  • Maintains an accurate record of the members of the society.
  • Maintains a file of all standing and ad hoc committee meeting minutes for a period of 5 years.
  • Assists the Corresponding Secretary as necessary.
  • Turns over all SVBT records to the duly elected successor within one month of the completion of her/his term.
  • Co-chairs the Education Committee.

Corresponding Secretary — two-year term, elected in even years

The corresponding secretary is charged with managing all of the correspondence of the society and keeping a record of correspondence received and sent.

Duties include:

  • Conducting the correspondence of the Society and the Board of Directors.
  • Sending out monthly email blasts using templates through our email marketing provider to provide members with monthly updates on SVBT.
  • Assist the Recording Secretary as necessary.
  • Turns over all SVBT records to the duly elected successor within one month of the completion of her/his term.

Member-at-Large Positions:

The four Member-at-Large positions are each 2-year terms. Member-at-Large positions 1 and 3 will be voted upon in odd years while Member-at-Large positions 2 and 4 will be voted upon in even years.

Duties include:

  • Attending all Board of Director meetings
  • Chairing committees as needed
